CREW Launches CorporateCrackdown.org – Outside Oversight, Where Business and Government Intersect

May 20, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) launched a new website today that will provide much-needed oversight on the intersection between business and government.

Federal contractors, corporations, and trade groups all conduct business with the government with relatively little non-governmental oversight. CorporateCrackdown.org’s mission is to change that. The new CREW website will hold accountable those who unduly influence government officials, overcharge taxpayers, or sacrifice the public good for private benefit by exposing their activities and taking action where appropriate.

The latest news, reports, and blogs on corporate malfeasance will be posted on CorporateCrackdown.org to educate the public on those companies that use their power and influence to prioritize profit at the expense of Americans' interests.

Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW, said today, “CorporateCrackdown.org will give the American public a place to go to learn about credit card company rip offs, payday lenders’ unprincipled activities, and defense contractors’ crooked dealings. We have targeted unethical elected officials since our inception, and now CREW has corporate America in its sights. This is just the warning shot."
